I’ve been telling myself that I should replace Spark with something for years now, but finding that something has been difficult. I’ve been using Spark since 2018, and I’ve gotten so used to the smart inbox that places unread emails at the top and sorts them by category that anything else feels unintuitive. But small annoyances abound. On a regular basis, the app asks me to give it a review, or to upgrade to a paid subscription. For an email app, the experience of actually composing emails feels entirely neglected and unchanged since 2018 or so.
The focus for Spark the last couple of years seems to have been on adding AI features, and nothing could make me want to pay a monthly subscription less than mixing in a bunch of AI to my inboxes and outgoing emails. I would, however, pay good money for an email app with a great reading and writing experience, but there doesn’t seem to be one, so I’m sticking with Spark for now. Maybe I’ll end up switching to the default Mail app in the end, smart inbox or not.
