Backblaze is the type of service you hope you’ll never need, but are extremely thankful for when you do. It runs in the background and continuously backs up your computers and external drives (although not network attached storage) to the Backblaze servers, so you always have external copies of all of your local files in case your computer breaks, gets stolen, or is left behind on the train.
I’ve been backing up my computers with Backblaze for over ten years by now. I’ve only had to use those backups a handful of times in that decade, but the $99 yearly subscription is a small price to pay for the peace of mind it gives me. Even these days, with most of my work stored in Github repositories or on Figma servers, and most of my personal files stored on iCloud, there are still folders on my computer that date back two decades with stuff I would hate to lose if disaster struck.
