Western Mountaineering Megalite Review

Tarptent Stratospire Li, interior, with my sleeping bag and storage bags open.

The good reputation of California based sleeping bag manufacturer Western Mountaineering is well deserved. In the three years I’ve had my MegaLite, it’s been my go-to sleeping bag for early to late summer, which lines up pretty well with the comfort rating of -2°C here in the southern end of the Swedish mountain chain. It came with me on my 55 day thruhike of those mountains in the summer of 2023. I slept warm and comfortable during the entire hike, with plenty of space to move around thanks to the slightly wider design of the MegaLite.

The Western Mountaineering MegaLite carries a small weight penalty at 710 grams for the 200 cm version, and packs down small in my sleeping bag storage pod of choice, which is the 10 liter version of the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Side Entry Pod. It’s an expensive sleeping bag for sure, but worth every penny.
