LG CX 65” OLED TV Review

The LG CX line of TVs was the go-to recommendation for OLED TVs in the “pricy but not insane” price segment when I was last in the market for a new TV, back in 2020 or so. For me, two of its biggest selling points was the support for 120 Hz refresh rates as well as variable refresh rate, which reduces screen tearing. Both features were introduced to gaming consoles with the then just released Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, although few games try to implement the former. The color accuracy was a pretty big step up from my previous TV as well, but since that one (also an LG) had gotten smashed in a move, direct comparisons didn’t matter much.

My LG CX 65” is close to six years old now, but I still don’t feel any urge to replace it with a newer model. It seems like the biggest development for TVs since the LG CX is that the built-in software has become even more difficult to ignore. Developments in picture quality have been slow, and video game consoles and other hardware has been even slower to take advantage of it. I’ll stick with my LG CX until something – maybe a new console generation? – gives me a good reason to replace it.
