I bought my IKEA Markus office chair right at the start of the pandemic. As office chair stress tests go, those early Covid-19 years are pretty hard to beat. I worked from home during the pandemic and still do, so on a normal working day, I spend anywhere from four to ten hours in the IKEA Markus. We’ve gotten to know each other pretty well.
The IKEA Markus has an adjustable back tilt and seat height, lumbar support, castor wheels, armrests, and a tall back with a cushioned headrest. The mesh material of the backrest helps with back ventilation on warm (or stressful) days, and has a little bit of stretch that helps with comfort. It all feels solidly built given the price, and IKEA backs it up with a generous ten year guarantee. After six years of near daily use, my IKEA Markus is starting to look a bit worn but is still in one piece.
What about comfort? I can’t speak to how IKEA Markus compares to other desk chairs on that point, but I can say that in the years and thousands of hours I’ve used it, I haven’t experienced any back or neck pain. Given that, it’s easy to recommend.
