Joby Compact Light tripod Review

As someone interested in both photography and ultralight hiking gear, I’m always on the lookout for lightweight and capable tripods. I don’t think any proper ultralight hiker (as in a backpack baseweight below 4.5 kg) would include the Joby Compact Light tripod on their Lighterpack gear list, but at 870 g and a maximum height of 131 cm, it’s light enough and flexible enough that I sometimes bring it on shorter hiking trips. Especially for multi-day trips in the wintertime, when I store my gear in my mountain sled.

My tripod is actually a Manfrotto one, but Manfrotto and Joby owner Videndum moved it over to the Joby brand at some point. Since then, it seems like Joby has discontinued the product entirely. If you can find it still in stock somewhere, it’s a good option.
