On April 8, Microsoft will stop updating and offering support for Windows XP. In anticipation of the date, Microsoft has released the website amirunningxp.com, which – you guessed correctly – checks if the visitor is using Windows XP and recommends them to upgrade to Windows 8.
A lot can be said about both the initiative and the website itself, but the thing I couldn’t get over is the 2.1 Mb PNG-image that Microsoft are using as a background image on the site. As if the people who are using a twelve year old OS without being aware of it have 100 Mbit connections.
