HBO Nordic (Favorite Stuff of 2014)

HBO Nordic is on this list despite the quality of the actual service. There’s a staggering amount of quality content available on it, but the construction of the service itself is so lackluster that it boggles the mind.

It doesn’t keep track of your viewing history, it doesn’t automatically offer to play the next episode of a show once an episode is finished, and if you navigate to a specific episode of a specific show only to realize that you haven’t logged in, it’ll put you right back on the front page once you have logged in. So you have go to “Shows”, click “Show all”, scroll down to the show you want to watch, select the season you wanted to watch (if you remember which season it was), and click the episode (if you remember which episode it was). It’s like Netflix never happened.

Fingers crossed, HBO Nordic will improve the functionality of their service in 2015.

Then again: The Sopranos, The Wire, The Affair, Rome, Boardwalk Empire, The Leftovers, The Comeback, The Knick, Ray Donovan, The Newsroom, Game of Thrones … The list of amazing content goes on and on, and HBO Nordic is the only place where it can be (lawfully) accessed. I got my fingers crossed that HBO Nordic will get around to improving the functionality of their service in 2015. Until then, I’ll begrudgingly keep coming back for more.

Update 19/3/2015: HBO has released a new version of HBO Nordic that fixes several of the issues mentioned above.
