Export Preview Signatures to SVG on Mac

I needed to access one of my handwritten signatures in the Preview app as an SVG file today. Since I couldn’t find any tutorials for it, I figured I write one myself.

This is how you do it:

  1. Open the TextEdit app and create a new document.
  2. Go to File → Export as PDF, and export the empty document.
  3. Open the PDF file with the Preview app. Click the “Show Markup Toolbar” button in the toolbar, and then the “Sign” button. Add the signature you want to export as an SVG, and save the PDF.
  4. Open the PDF file with a vector editing app. I used Sketch, but any similar app should do the trick. You should now be able to select the handwritten signature as a vector element and export it to a SVG or EPS file.

That’s it!
