Anders Norén

I’m a designer and developer born and bred in Norrland, and now living in Stockholm. I enjoy coffee, movies, music older than myself, and long walks in nature. Preferably days at a time, with everything I need on my back. You can tag along on my Instagram in the summertime.

I’ve spent most of my working life designing and developing websites and services. I’ve also worked with identity design, editorial design, and written for websites and magazines. In late 2019, I decided to go freelance after five years at agencies. I’ve worked with clients like The Absolut Company, Bonnier Magazines & Brands, Conan, H&M Foundation, Jung Relations, Renée Voltaire, Svenska Spel, and Zeta.

When I’m not doing client work, I spend my time on side projects. Since 2012, I’ve released 22 free WordPress themes that have been downloaded close to 4 million times and are used on hundreds of thousands of websites. In 2019, I designed and helped develop Twenty Twenty, the default theme in WordPress 5.3. I also run a WordPress glossary and – a Swedish site about brewing coffee. I like to keep busy. And caffeinated.

This site is running a custom WordPress theme called Upset. It is designed with Figma, developed with Visual Studio Code, version controlled on GitHub with the Tower Mac app, and hosted on Websupport. Caching is handled by Cloudflare. The site is analytics free.

The text on the site is set in the lovely Söhne typeface, designed by Kris Sowersby of Klim Type Foundry. The photo of me was taken by Thord D. Hedengren in 2019.
